Completing the System of Care

In 2023, the World Health Assembly endorsed a landmark resolution calling for the integration of rehabilitation into global health systems. This initiative acknowledges the significance of rehabilitation as a critical component of the continuum of care, and the need for rehabilitation to be incorporated into universal healthcare coverage - tertiary to public health and medicine. This resolution underlies a critical need for the development and expansion of a global rehabilitation workforce. Yet rehabilitation services and post-secondary education programs remain elusive in much of the Global South.
